How to Use the Blender Addon Installer
This guide explains how to install and use the Blender Addon Installer script that creates a convenient
panel in the N-menu for installing addon ZIP files.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Install the Script
1. Open Blender
2. Go to Scripting Workspace
Click on "Scripting" tab at the top of Blender
3. Create New Text File
Click "New" button in the text editor
4. Copy and Paste the Script
Copy the entire Python script code
Paste it into the text editor
5. Run the Script
Click the "Run Script" button (▶️ play icon)
You should see "Addon Installer Panel registered successfully!" in the console
Step 2: Access the Panel
1. Go to 3D Viewport
Switch to any workspace with 3D Viewport (Layout, Modeling, etc.)
2. Open N-Panel (Sidebar)
Press N key on your keyboard
Or go to View → Sidebar
3. Find the "Addons" Tab
Look for the "Addons" tab in the N-panel sidebar
Click on it to open the tab
4. Locate "Addon Installer" Panel
You'll see the "Addon Installer" panel with the installation interface
Using the Addon Installer
Step 3: Install an Addon
1. Select ZIP File
Click the "📂 Browse ZIP File" button
Navigate to your addon ZIP file location
Select the addon ZIP file (e.g., fast_screenshot.zip )
Click "Open"
2. Verify Selection
The panel will show "Selected: [filename.zip]"
The "Install Addon" button will become enabled (blue/active)
3. Install the Addon
Click the "📥 Install Addon" button
Wait for the installation process to complete
4. Check Results
Success: You'll see a green success message in Blender's info bar
Console Output: Check the system console for detailed installation info
Error: Any errors will be shown in red in the info bar
